irises on fire

i don’t know what you’re thinking,
but i hope you’re thinking well
these days you look like giving up
but i know you’d never tell.

these days you seem so distant
you’re somewhere else
if its a good place will you take me 'cause I’m losing it myself

I don’t know where you’re going,
but i know that you’re not here
I don’t know where you’re going
but I hope you make it there

these are things that can change if you let them.
and threw away the safe they were kept in
but the months turned to years
and it wore it’s crown around your ears
saying "happiness is such a great deception.”
And Nowhere is the only true direction.

These days we don’t talk anymore
the fault is mine
But we couldn’t stand inside the flames
and hope to both survive.
It’s not as if I stayed up at night,
thinking how to cut you deep
The pain was too much for both of us
and I tried my best to help you stop the bleed.

In the end I bled out with you, in a gory scene
it mixed together and we found our type was both the same
Blood that’s old and clotted, from years of sitting in our veins.

how could we be so self-absorbed?
a bleeding you’s a bleeding me.
I know you’ll say I cut the cord
but we gnawed it thin with both our teeth.
